What to Look for in a Web Host - Customer Support

Pricing is not the only deciding factor for choosing a web host. To me, the customer support service of the hosting provider is more important.
I remember when I first bought a web hosting service, like many other first-timers, I was attracted to the low price without the slightest knowledge of how good the customer service is.
To cut a long story short, I experienced several downtimes and page loading issues with the service provider. Because the company only provided email support, I can only email the customer support team and wait anxiously for their response.
Honestly, their response was pretty fast, but their technical knowledge wasn't that sound because they're not able to recover my site quickly most of the times. At times, my site loading can appear sluggish for the entire two weeks, or it can go down for 5 days in consecution.
Of course, there were times they're able to resolve my issues within a couple of days.
But overall, I wasn't happy with the web host's customer service that has created so many downtimes and delays to my website, so I switched to another company. The second hosting provider appeared much better, but its technical knowledge still left a lot to be desired. I went on and finally found the web hosting service that fulfills my needs, and I'm still hosting my websites with this company today.
It is the customer support service that makes me want to stay with the company.
Firstly, it offers helps in many ways - user forum, live chat, phone support and email support. These multiple avenues of support operate around the clockwork even on weekends and holidays, which makes it easy for you to receive help any time, unlike the first hosting service I used that provides email support and operates during business hours only.
Secondly, you shouldn't expect your website to have no downtime at all. Any web host, even the most established ones will have their servers run into problems from time to time. What's more important is the recovery speed of the support team. If the team is well-trained and technically sound, they'll be able to recover your website fast with minimum downtime and delay.
That said, if you have a web host in mind, make sure you find and read the online reviews on its customer service, check its website to see what kind of support and help options it offers, and then use one or two of the options such as 'live chat' to make some inquiries before you buy.
Doing those things may not promise that you'll get a hosting provider with good customer service, but at least you get some good ideas about the company's customer support team to help you make buying decisions.
